FACEBOOK ELIMINA UNA PUBLICACIÓN DE LA PRIMERA MINISTRA NORUEGA

Black and white photograph shows men, women and children, families from Vietnam on boats as they arrive in Hong Kong. At the end of the war in Viet Nam and the years following it, many Vietnamese people felt the need to flee the country for reasons of personal safety. In the summer of 1979 a conference was held in Geneva where it was decided Hong Kong, would be one of the countries to offer first asylum, meaning the refugees would be admitted and allowed to remain until they were permanently resettled outside the region. On 2 July 1982 the Hong Kong Government changed its policy and began detaining all Vietnamese refugees in closed detention centres. The government's stated purpose in introducing this policy was solely to discourage further arrivals from Vietnam.
